For some of you who grew up in the late "50's" and early "60's", you might recognize the item in the photo.
It's an air vent for a private fallout shelter. Many of these private fallout shelters were built during the late "50's" and early "60's" in
house basements. Fortunately we never had to put these shelters to the real test, but during the
Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962,
families who had a fallout shelter were stocking them up with survival provisions for a 2 week stay.
